With the financial contribution KICI hopes to support the Turkish population in the Netherlands and Turkey during this difficult period.

On Sunday, October 23, the earthquake had already claimed over 500 lives and over 1700 people were injured. More than 2.200 buildings were destroyed, causing tens of thousands of people to be homeless. Because of the many aftershocks it was difficult to help the injured people, moreover people were afraid to stay in buildings scared for another earthquake.

The Turkish Red Crescent has, in close cooperation with the Turkish government, placed Ercis en Van emergency camps at the cities that were hurt most to give shelter to the victims. Currently more than 35,000 blankets , stoves, bread, water and food packages have been distributed. With the mobile kitchens the Red Crescent can provide hot meals to the people.  Lastly tens of colleagues of the Iranian Red Crescent have been sent to assist the victims with psychological trauma caused by the earthquake.
